Xinhua News Agency made a short documentary about Shanghai K
Charitable Foundation and the Jiahe Hospitality and Mentoring Progamme, with a
focus on showing disadvantaged youths successfully breaking away from the
vicious cycle of poverty through vocational training.
The film recorded the daily lives of youths in the school.
In addition, Cycle 1 graduate Owen Zhang and four Cycle 3 youths from the most
underdeveloped areas in China were interviewed for the film.
Owen Zhang started his career as a waiter in The Peninsula
Shanghai in 2017 and has been promoted to become the supervisor of Sir Elly’s,
a Michelin-Star rated restaurant at the Hotel. He exemplifies the spirit of
achieving self-reliance through poverty alleviation by education. Cycle 3
youths look up to Owen and they wish to duplicate his accomplishments upon
graduation.

staged a youth inspirational story. The Jiahe Hospitality and Mentoring
Programme mainly supports young people from poor families to receive vocational
skills training and life skills training.
